A Worthwhile Cause To Help Your Neighbors
A Worthwhile Cause To Help Your Neighbors in Flagstaff
By Amy Kent & Sandy Berry
Seniors on fixed incomes trying to house,
feed and clothe their grandchildren, nieces and
nephews are facing an ongoing struggle and
account for many of our shoppers. For the
2700 households who signed up with us
(which include 1800 children), there is not
enough money to pay rent, utilities, transportation
and food. Many become homeless, living
in trucks, tents or vans. No heat, no way to
cook, no lavatory. It is almost impossible to
hold a job without adequate housing and food.
The best way to alleviate homelessness is to
help families stay in their homes. From its inception,
the Pantry has seen 335,000 pounds of
food taken home by our shoppers, aiding in
health and stability. We are open for
‘shopping’ for produce, meat and packaged
food Wednesday through Sunday from 3 to 7
PM – without cost to our shoppers.
With your help we can continue to serve
this community and make it stronger!
