Church of the Resurrection Family, It is with much grief and sadness that I am informing you that the elders of Church of the Resurrection have prayerfully decided to cancel all physical meetings (including Lord’s Day worship) due to the COVID-19 situation for the next 2 weeks, at which time we will reevaluate based on new information from our local and federal governing officials. There were two main factors that led to this decision. First, the command to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). In order to best love those in our community and help slow the spread of COVID-19, the elders thought it best to cancel physical meetings for 2 weeks. Second, the command to obey those who govern us for the common good (Romans 13:1–5). Both local and federal authorities have asked that we not gather in order to help slow the spread of this virus. Although this decision was very hard for us to make, it seemed best for the above reasons to cancel physical gatherings at Church of the Resurrection temporarily. So, what now? A few things. First, we will be moving forward with our Lord’s Day worship services online. You will be able to go to our Facebook page at 10 am this Lord’s Day (March 22) and join us for an abbreviated worship service. We plan to do the same for the worship service on March 29. Second, we will be streaming a mid-week devotion on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm on our Facebook page that you can watch and interact with me and other elders. If you need any help finding or accessing our Facebook page to join our worship service or mid-week devotion, please, let me or one of the elders know and we will make sure to help you. Third, one of our elders (or elder-in-training) will be reaching out personally to each member to check in with you and make sure you have everything you need and that you are doing well. Please, do not hesitate to let them know what you might need so that we can love you as the body of Christ through this difficult time. Fourth, the elders want to encourage you to still be generously giving to the church during this time. There are many ways you can go about doing this. There is a place on our website to give online. You can mail a check to the church office. You can ask one of the elders for other ways. Finally, we will do our best to over communicate with you during this time so that you are well informed with what is going on with the rest of the saints at Church of the Resurrection and what is coming up next. Please, be in prayer for Church of the Resurrection, Flagstaff, and our Country during this tumultuous time. If you feel like something is off or wrong about this, you are right. It is not good for God’s people to not gather for corporate worship. These are strange and unprecedented times right now. But, remember, brothers and sisters in Christ, that our God is in control (Ephesians 1:11) and is still on his throne (Hebrews 1:3). Nothing is outside of his control, including COVID-19. In times like this, the children of God need to run to their heavenly father in prayer and find refuge in his strength (Psalm 91:2). As Oswald Chambers so eloquently put it, “The remarkable thing about God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.” Praying for You, Pastor Joshua Walker Church of the Resurrection 740 W University Heights Dr S Flagstaff, AZ 86005
