Ash Wednesday & The Season of LENT
A Time for Spiritual Renewal as We Prepare Our Hearts for EASTER
This year Ash Wednesday falls on March 1st as we observe the beginning of the season of Lent. Just like Advent is a season for us to prepare for Christmas, so Lent is a season for us to prepare for Easter. Why the ashes? “Ashes” are a symbol in scripture for repentance and faith. Representing God’s people, we see prophets appear “in sack cloth and ashes” which communicates to their people the need to repent of our sins and turn back to God. This year Easter falls on April 16th so let us use this season to employ the spiritual disciples to prepare our hearts for the Easter joy. Some traditions encourage disciples to “give up something for Lent” and you can certainly do that if it is meaningful to you. However, in recent years, many disciples have added a spiritual discipline which draws them ever closer to Christ…for this is what our heart’s desire should reflect. For spiritual guidance as to how to make the most of Lent in preparation for Easter, talk with Pastor Wes or Pastor Bob for they would be glad to give guidance.
